It’s another year for BET Awards, this music festival and award ceremony in recognition of blacks in the entertainment industry.

Unlike last year, when the Covid 19 pandemic had reached its peak and the celebration was eventually organised virtually without live audience, this year’s edition will be aired live with audience.

The awards night is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 27 on BET at 8 PM ET/ PT, under strict observation of Covid 19 safety protocols.

List of nominees have been unveiled for fans to begin voting for their favourites.

The nominees for For “Best International Act” includes none other than Diamond Platnumz, he is the only artist from East Africa.

The king of Bongo-Flavor has been working extensively in the music world, producing back-to-back hits. His song ‘Waah alone has generated over 150 million views on YouTube in less than a year.

In 2020, Diamond Platnumz topped various news outlets and was celebrated widely for his ground-breaking success on YouTube where he gathered one billion views on the video streaming platform, making made him the first African artist to achieve milestone.

Diamond will be representing Tanzania for the third time on the “Best International Act” award category.

Other 2021 BET Awards Best International Act Nominees in no particular order are:

Burna Boy, one of Nigeria’s top notch musicians and has gained international recognition through African music.

The singer/songwriter became the first Nigerian to succeed in back-to-back Grammys nominations following his “Africa Giant” and “Twice As Tall” albums’ nominations at the 62 ndand 63 rdedition of the Grammy Awards for the “Best World Music Album” category.

He has also received multiple accolades for the same album on other music festivals. Burna Boy won the “Best International Act” at the 2019 BET awards and 2 years after.

Wizkid is the greatest of all time international awards winner from the African Continent. Wizkid has in his possession multiple internationally recognised accolades.

He won a Grammy in the 63 rdedition of the Grammy Awards, his first ever Grammy award for Best Music Video, three BET Awards of which he remains the only African artist to win the most awards and two consecutive times for “Best International Act”.

This is yet another year to celebrate his achievements in the music industry and his appearance on the nomination list for the forthcoming BET “Best International Act” award category is well deserved.

Aya Nakamura is a French female vocalist who is of Malian origin. The singer is well-known for her creativity through the afro pop and R&B music genres.

Privately known as Aya Coco Danioko, the young pop star is making waves in France with many of her songs peaking on several music charts in France and internationally.

She’s notable for a lot of hit songs including, “Djadja” and “Comportement”. She has a huge fan base around the world and with about 5.8 million subscribers on YouTube.

Aya Nakamura has garnered more than 2 billion views on her YouTube page, making her the first female French artiste with most views.

Youssoupha is also a French rapper who hails from Congo.

Known officially as Youssoupha Mabiki, the rapper has also been nominated in the same award category in recognition of his remarkable success in the music industry through his unquestionable French rapping skills.

His best songs include, “On se connaît” and “Cœur de Guerrier”. He has worked closely with renowned French rappers and international artists such as Diam’s, Kool Shen, Corneille, Indila among several others.

Youssoupha has established international success through his enormous views and followers on YouTube.

Emicida is representing Brazil for the second time at the BET awards, but will be competing on the award category for the first time.

He took to his Instagram page his nomination flyer with a caption “thank you”. Originally, Emicida is referred to as Leandro Roque de Oliveira.

The rapper is identified with hits like “Rua Augusta” and “Zica, Vai Lá”.
